How many of you would’ve grabbed the chance of going back to your past or future? No doubt all of us would have said yes to such an opportunity. Wouldn’t you? What is Time-Travelling?

Though some people have had bad experiences in their past, surely they have good things to remember as well. In the same way, all of us are curious enough to know our future.  But time travelling doesn’t mean one can actually change their past situations or occurrences by going back in time.

With this comes in mind, is it really important to look to the past? Is it the first time you’re hearing about time travelling? If yes! Then here you’ll find most of the answers.

What is Time-Travelling?

We all travel in time. For instance, we travel one year in time between birthdays at an approximate speed of 1 second per second. However, when we think of time travel the first thing that hits our mind is what we see in movies and science fiction books.

With this comes in mind, can it be real? Yes! This is what science answers. As time travel is a widely-recognized concept in science fiction, the idea of the time machine was created by H.G Wells in the 1895 novel The Time Machine.

So time travel is the concept of movement between certain points in time and in space by a person or an object, with the use of this hypothetical device known as a time machine.

Is Time-Travelling really possible?

Over 100 years ago, according to a famous scientist- Albert Einstein, time and space are linked together and he also stated that our universe has a speed limit that is 186,000 miles per second. In simple words, nothing can travel faster than the speed of light.

Earlier in 2009, one of the British physicists Stephen Hawking held a party for time travellers in which he stated that time travel is merely impossible.

Can Time Travel be used in everyday life?

Nowadays almost everyone uses GPS satellites as it helps us to figure out directions to find new places. So yes, the math of time travel in our everyday life is possible.

In the same way, NASA scientists also use a GPS of high accuracy as it helps them to keep track of satellites in space.

You must be wondering how time travel helps here? The major role played is time travel calculations as it helps one to get around town and GPS relies on it.

Therefore, GPS satellites experience a time rate faster than 1 second per second and if scientists wouldn’t have done the math correctly then there would have been a big problem already.

For instance, GPS wouldn’t navigate your home location even if it was nearly located which as a result would have added to a few miles each day leading to day-to-day life issues.

Are there any ways of Time-Travelling?

As said earlier, Hawking stated that time travel is probably impossible. But travelling to the future has a different story. No doubt, we all are time travellers as we travel from past to future at a rate of 1 hour per hour.

Just as the rivers flow at different speeds to different places, science has found ways to take the fast track into the future.

Here are some ways of time travelling.

  1. Time Travel via Gravity

One way through which time travel can be done is via gravity and it is inspired by Einstein. According to him, time moves slower as the gravity gets stronger.

For instance, the strength of gravity increases as one moves to the centre of the earth. This means the time taken by your feet runs slower than your head.

  1. Time Travel via Speed

One of the easiest, quickest, and more practical ways to time travel into the far future is via speed. This way it is measured with the help of twin atomic clocks.

One clock was flown in a jet aircraft and the other stayed stationary on earth. According to the Physicists, the flying clock was found ticking slower because of its speed.

  1. Time Travel via Suspended Animation

Do you know mammals such as squirrels and bears can slow down their metabolism by reducing their cell’s requirement for food and oxygen during hibernation? You must be wondering can humans do this?

Though one cannot stop their metabolism, suspending animation is another way to travel to the future. It can be done through slowing perception of time by slowing or stopping body processes and then restarting them later.

  1. Time Travel via Wormholes

Another method to time travel is through spacetime known as wormholes as this can bridge distances of a billion light-years or different points of time. According to research, the attempts to prove this way have failed.

  1. Time Travel using Light

One of the American Physicists Ron Mallet forwarded another time travel idea by using a rotating cylinder of light to twist spacetime.

Just like a bubble runs around on top of the coffee after swirling it with a spoon, anything dropped inside the swirling cylinder drags around in space.

Benefits of time travel!

Wouldn’t it be fantastic to travel back in time and see dinosaurs? However, know that travelling back to the past could destroy the future.

But talking about its benefits, recalling past events can really help people to avoid mistakes and behave in the future.

This way people can learn from the past and perform well in the future without having to endure. Therefore, it makes people more compassionate and more impartial in decision making.

Knowing the History for a Better Tomorrow…

However, time travel is possible based on the laws of physics, but time travellers wouldn’t be able to alter the past in a measurable way. Even though events that have happened in the past can no longer be of use in today’s generation, it gives us knowledge of our history for a better future.

Therefore, many people believe time travel to exist only in pure science, but in reality, it can be done within the next generation only. What is Time-Travelling?
